Kathleen Scanlon, Chief Circuit Mediator

The court's mediators hold conferences before briefing in most civil counseled appeals. These conferences are designed to explore the prospect of amicable resolutions and to reduce the time and expense of the appellate process. The circuit mediators also assist counsel to clarify and narrow appellate issues, objectively assess the best alternatives to a negotiated agreement, and generate realistic parameters for possible settlement. Local Rule 33.1 governs the mediation process.
